Masters of Combat - Captain David McCampbell US Navy - Original Pencil Drawing
'Nine in one Mission'
"Flying his F6F Hellcat 'Minsi III' from the carrier USS Essex David McCampbell led five other Hellcats of VF15 headlong into a force of more than sixty Japanese aircraft over Leyte, Phillipines, 24th October 1944. McCampbell destroyed no fewer than nine enemy planes, the highest achieved by any American Ace on one mission. For this he was awarded the Medal of Honor".
McCampbell's feat during the action known as the 'Marianas Turkey shoot' was a truly spectacular one-off display of cool headed tactics and great shooting.
This superb drawing - which was featured in the 'Nicolas Trudgian Sketchbook' on page 43 - shows McCampbell downing yet another A6M Zero.
The Drawing measures 36x29cms and is Framed with ORIGINAL US Navy Wings, a FDC featuring the Pilot in the cockpit of 'Minsi III' and the Original Signature of David McCampbell US Navy.
The Size of the Fully Framed piece is 69x58cms.
A fantastic Original piece for the serious collector.
